A guardian Bodhisattva within Buddhism. One of the Shiten-O (Four Kings), originally named Tamonten (or Kuvera from Hinduism). One of the Hachibushu, the eight guardian deities/Bodhisattvas that defend the Dharma. Under orders from Taishakuten, he guards the North. He became very popular as a war god amongst the Bushi in Japan, after Shotoku Taishi (famous prince in Japan that lived in the 6th & 7th centuries) prayed to him for victory.
